The Shudderfly Archive
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
The Shudderfly archive is an archive of previous major versions of my passion project, "Shudderfly". The game is made in RPGMaker MV, and has a movement system derivative of LISA: The Painful's. It does not take LISA: The Painful as it's main inspiration, but takes a few game design decisions from it. Though the art, the themes, and everything else are still distinctly very adult.
IT NOW, includes the most UP TO DATE version of the game which is my magnum opus. The reason why this isn't just the actual page for the game, is because a "first release" for an itch.io game puts it in the new games page and I wanna save the actual page for when I fully complete a chapter. Once a full chapter has finally completed, it will be paid from then on. The game will have 4 chapters, and currently, 1/3rd of the first chapter is playable.
The setting of the world revolves around slavery, drugs, with some weird powers and shit, while the premise of the story more or less is that:
"Humanity has returned to the surface after years of living underground after an incident known as 'The Great Mutation' where colossal humanoid monsters called 'fleshiis' are seen everywhere and shit. Returning to the surface, roughly like 50 years after, some fleshiis are being spotted again nationwide. A mysterious mf by the name of Egor with connections to multiple powerful people decide to aid in stopping the nationwide crisis."
Across the versions, the idea of the story more or less stayed the same but the writing itself and characters drastically change across the versions. I thought that it'd be interesting for those who wants to see for themselves what the older versions of the game were like, to see it. I'm currently working on the new build which is different from all others as I've remade it from the ground up once again.
Yes, I've remade the game from the ground up roughly 4 times now. This current rebuild was because I realized I was too worried about the quality of the gameplay and game design that I never properly gave space for the story.
There have been other projects of this game, that are waaaay older. All of the ones here are just the ones that were "exported" meaning, they were in some way a playable experience on their own.
The game isn't a porn game but it's character designs are pretty suggestive. I figured I should mention that in case anyone interested could get bothered by it. There is nudity in some character designs, but there is a censor nudity option which censors all nudity be it from humans or not, so it should be safe on YouTube if anyone's interested in recording footage of it.
The current build, Beta 7, (currently version 0.7.12), is the magnum opus in all of my years of game dev as of the moment. For it's battle system, the player can eliminate pretty much all possible RNG and always win fights if they know what they're doing…. that being said, the battle system is both complex and easy to learn.
The closest thing I could say about the battle system is that, "It's like Modern Yu-Gi-Oh", that may turn off some people but it's similar in the aspect where you can do so many things in 1 turn, and if you fuck up you might just lose a battle. There is no grinding, there is no random encounters, and the game is closer in feel to a survival horror than it is an RPG.
I've made the difficulty modifiers more flexible and made things a lot easier for people who just want to play the game for the story, that being said, you still have to understand how enemies fight. The hardest difficulty, called "Homophobic" difficulty, has bonuses that can drastically change how you approach the game.
This build also has the most content in regards to narrative in comparison to any other build or version. There are a lot of placeholder assets however, like entire events that are just pictures in a slideshow dictating what's going on, I hope that doesn't bother people much. This is still early into development, and I want to make as much progress as I can quickly.
In my round of play testing for this, it took me around 9 in game hours, I think it might be a lot shorter than that, but I played on the 2nd hardest difficulty and I had to be very meticulous with battle preparations.
>Patch 0.7.9
-I found out that the reason why the game's 900 mb+, was because there was 1 audio file that I did not use that was "9 hours of ambient rain". it was like 700 mb.
-I now added the superboss that I promised to add.
-There were also some minor bugs I patched like incorrect falling events that I now fixed.
>Patch 0.7.10
-The superboss didn't have the correct stats so it was possible to beat without the trouble that I intended for it.
>Patch 0.7.11
-Fixed bug of a specific Slushii not disapearing with Kill Shot
-Chiro when "laid back" now properly does as such.
-Kill Shot, accidentally wasn't getting removed after each fleshii kill. Now it does.
-Kill Shot should now only deduct Egor's HP when activating it
-Rid a bug where Egor's sprite is holding a phone when he levels up.
>Patch 0.7.12
-Minor bug fix where Egor no longer "shuffles" after specific moments, I think it's only relevant in Homophobic difficulty.
-Sai-Kou sprite changed.
The first version of the game to be uploaded online, the story is drastically different to what it is now but the gameplay of this build is rather unique to almost all others. Featuring battle animations. In this first build of the game, I made my music with Chrome Music Lab.
This is a more enhanced version of version 0.1.0, the main difference is that I added more fullscreen art and a couple more bug fixes. I recommend playing this build if you've played 0.5.6 and 0.2.1 already. This is an inferior version of 0.2.1, HOWEVER, it's battle system being unique to all other versions after this makes this a different experience.
(Chronologically speaking, this version was only at 0.1.1 before I released the next beta which would be 0.2.0, but then as of October 2, someone by the name of "ShadowDavin" discovered a bug where the screen would remain black after a fight. So I made a patch a few hours later, with the version being 0.1.2.)
I revamped the games art, almost ALL art is new. I am surprised actually at how drastic my skills in art has improved from Version 0.1.1 to this Version. This version's itch.io page is still viewable, it's here if you want to see it.
The battle system from here on out is different compared to 0.1.1, so this is pretty much a combination of the future builds with the build of 0.1.1. If you've played the later builds like 0.5.6 and beyond already, I recommend this build since it's a unique experience on it's own.
I thought I backed up everything, but it seems I didn't as I couldn't find a back up of the trailer that this version had. So that's sad.
I have once again revamped all of the games art, and rebuilt everything from the ground up.
The name of the game has then changed to Eistrofolk: Tight Lipped. The art of the game is much more saturated and at this point, I've become stricter with choosing the colors I use with my backgrounds.
I didn't have time to make new battle animations or full screen art so you won't be seeing much anymore from here on out as I sort of prioritized the gameplay over the little things.
In this build of the game, I started to make the music of my game with the FL Studio demo as I was inspired from LISA: The Painful's developer who did the same.
There technically was a build between builds 1 and build 2, but we don't talk about that.
Boasts an new Intro Sequence.
I have ONCE AGAIN, remade majority of the game's art. In regards to visuals, from here on out, this is more or less the established art style of my backgrounds and characters. I am very proud of what the backgrounds look like here.
This has more improved art from Version 0.3.6, and a bit of a new chapter introducing more party members. More fleshii types, more Status Ailments, and a new terrain gimmick. Some party members have new designs.
Boasts a new Intro Sequence than from the previous versions.
Features customizable gameplay, allowing the player to limit their saves, disable inns, and pick-uppable items. The hardest difficulty is very homophobic but it is possible, so beware and enjoy.
This build is the latest build to be fully released. This is also the build I recommend to anyone who doesn't know anything about the game, to play.
(Disclaimer: When playing "Homophobic" difficulty, the bonus that says "More content and Party Members", that's a lie, I wasn't able to add more content or more party members "yet". So uhh, sorry for the misleading bonus.)
0.6.5, is a great build in and of itself. The version 0.6.5 has it's difficulty modifiers greatly change how you play the game in a way I was able to fine tune myself, and introduces how I now do the progression of the game with each sub-area having the game FORCE you to use new strategies.
One of the hardest builds for sure, but I feel like 0.7.8 trumps it in difficulty.
The download for it is a google drive link, because itch.io can only upload only up to 1GB of files. In the google drive link is a zip file containing all versions for Windows, MacOSX, and Linux altogether.
(Shoutout to Pwnks#3820 for being the first person and only person I'm aware of to complete this build's normal difficulty, and reach the end of the build in general.)
You can closely follow development on my youtube channel. I update it roughly once a week. Each week, if I don't post a video, I upload a community post.
